About World Harmony Project

  A Context for World Music

We live in a time of unprecedented International Travel and Communication.

This has spawned a sharing of knowledge and culture that allows the people of all nations to benefit from the experience of other nations.

A composite Planetary culture is developing from the traditional roots of the various nations.

This culture incorporates a global view in which all humanity shares and stewards the Earth together.

It's riches include the Arts, Sciences, Technologies, Languages and Philosophies that have developed throughout the Earth throughout history.

A composite World Music is developing, which includes elements from diverse traditions, combined and reapplied to reflect this cosmopolitan global culture.

In this process of growth, World Harmony Project seeks to maintain the integrity of these diverse musical expressions.

We do this by preserving the intonational and rhythmic characteristics of their musical roots.

This is accomplished by means of instruments and tuning standards that enable this expression.

Music Resource Development

World harmony Project is dedicated to the evolution of Music.
In particular, we support and assist composers, musicians,
Instrument Builders and Software Designers
in the use of Just Intonation.
~
Just Intonation is the beautiful, natural tuning system originally defined by the ancient philosopher and scientist, Pythagoras.

It had been used since ancient times, but fell out of use in the last two centuries because of the limitations of early keyboard instruments.

With modern technology, these limitations no longer exist, especially with electronic instruments and software.

Why Just Intonation?

Many musicologists believe that listening to music in Just Intonation sharpens awareness of relationships in Nature and Society, to a higher degree than music in the more common 12 tone equal tempered scale.

The principles of Just Intonation have been expanded in recent times, to acomodate the more complex lives of Information Age listeners.

This has been accomplished by adding more pitches to the  musical pallet. These additional pitches allow for more choices in melodic expression, as well as more possible harmonic combinations.
