Language allows us to express our thoughts and communicate them to others.

Every nation and culture in the world functions by means of language.

All of our history, literature, business, government and diplomacy depends upon it.

The nature of a language, including it's structure, syntax, semantics, history, associations and assumptions determine to some extent what kinds of thoughts, ideas and sentiments can be expressed by it. This in turn has an effect on the patterns of thought that it encourages.

Thus some languages, such as the so-called romantic languages, are more expressive for sentiments, while German and English have developed elaborate technological vocabularies. Eskimos have many words for snow, while Sanskrit, Persian and Hebrew are quite elaborate for Religious ideas.

Facility in two or more languages broadens a persons perspective, in addition to allowing cross cultural communication.

Non Violent Communication

NVC is a system for communicating thoughts and feelings for the purpose of identifying and satisfying the needs of the participants.

It is distinguished in this regard from the more common Language of Domination, that is more concerned with convincing others to think or do what we want them to.

NVC can be practiced in any language.

Associated with NVC is a method of group decision making called Consensus, which seeks to find solutions to problems that meet the needs of all parties involved.

In this way it is considered to be even more compassionate and egalitarian than Democracy, which allows for the needs of the majority to be met, while allowing those of a minority not to be met.
